Mabari and You. What to Expect when a Mabari Imprints on you. Aka, how to go about getting a Mabari from Kristopher and my rules/regulations for giving out dogs. Let this be know: I am extremely knowledge about dogs OOC and IC and while these dogs aren't real-- I want them to go to the best homes possible. I will decline people dogs from me and I am allowed to do so because of the nature of the Mabari lore. There are quite a few canon characters that I'd love to see obtain a dog but original characters will be judge on a feeling of worthiness that I write with my animals. The Mabari are my NPC that I'm giving to you. As such: there will not be many of them running around because of said lore either. I'll most likely run a self made cap on how many dogs there are going to be out and about. There shouldn't be many running about with civilians. These are wardogs that can double as pets. Also! You are more than welcome to bring other dogs to Kristopher. He knowledge about most, if not all, dog breeds that are pure lined and can assist with most things. Think of him as a Thedas-based vet and breeder. Characters with Mabari [ updated. /2/2015 ] None

Mabari
Dogs are an essential part of Fereldan culture, and no dog is more prized than The Mabari. The breed is as old as myth, said to have been bred from the wolves who served the Dane. Prized for their intelligence and loyalty, these dogs are more than mere weapons or status symbols: the hounds choose their masters, pairing with them for life. To be the master of a Mabari anywhere in Ferelden is to be recognized instantly as a person of worth.
The Mabari are an essential part of Fereldan military strategy. Trained hounds can easily pull knights from horseback or break lines of Pikemen, and the sight and sound of a wave of Wardogs, howling and snarling, has been known to cause panic among even the most hardened infantry soldiers.
– From Ferelden: Folklore and History by Sister Petrine, Chantry ScholarRules / Qualifications for MabariMabari pair for life. This doesn't mean you can ask for a mabari and then drop the dog the moment it bores you. You wouldn't do it in real life what would you do it to a fake animal? I will watch my dogs in their new placed homes for a while. I do not have the power to take the dog away but please treat them with the lore correct respect. Fereldan characters will see Kristopher's worth and he is highly regarded for his line. While he is not nobility, however, his father did help with given dogs to the Fereldan army giving him status without title and it will never reach beyond Fereldan characters.
- You must be worthy to obtain a Mabari
- What this entails is me reading over your biography after messaging me your interest in a dog. If I'm liking what I see under your personality and go through your history and what not to see if my mabari would find you appealing. If declined, I'll tell you why.
- The mabari does not become your npc until after our thread ends.
- For a bit of fun I may assign tasks to obtain your mabari. But, this means you do not control the dog until I give permission to handle them.
- Be kind.
- Be respectful.

omg I want to try to apply with Rowan Just a few things I need to know before I give a yes or no.
What is the primary shifting of your character and how would you be able to work that in with a hypothetical Mabari?
What is the extent of blood magic and how do you think that would affect your Mabari; watching self harm of its master ( I'm curious to hear this, actually )?
Why do you think a Mabari would find Rowan a suitable partner?

Sure!
-Rowan's primary forms are a sparrow and a wolf, though he's not mastered any other animal form. When I've roleplayed him interacting with NPC animals in other settings, it's mainly been from the POV of him trying to learn about the animal in question and understand how it works so he can utilize their forms. With something like a mabari, I imagine he'd like to try using it as a way to better bond with a potential mabari companion? You can't speak an animal's language as a shapeshifter, but I imagine travelling, hunting, and fighting together would be easier on some levels if they could keep up with each other.
-Blood magic is mostly a secondary specialization used to protect himself when he runs out of lyrium in combat, so he tends to draw on his own life force to fuel his spells rather than use another living being since he's a bit shy about using offensive magic in general. I can't imagine a mabari would like or want to see its master self harm, even in defense, since they're quite emotionally intelligent as far as the Dragon Age lore goes. I suppose it could depend on the personality of the mabari in question, too? Is it more of a nuturing type of hound, who might take offense at such actions and try to put a stop to it? Or is it a more hardened warrior that might understand the necessity of the action, even if it isn't fond of it? This could depend on how the mabari is played and how deep the bond will hypothetically go.
Rowan himself isn't a bad person, albeit misguided and inexperienced with others, and I think he could benefit from the type of partnership a mabari could provide. They don't really let you isolate yourself from others, you need to communicate and work with them like any other dog, but there's also that additional level of intelligence. They're not like normal dogs, they understand more than most people think they do, and I think it could be an interesting way to encourage him to reach out more and become a more experienced person as a result.
(also willing to elaborate more, sometimes I struggle w/ expressing things in english so please poke me if I am unclear or have used the wrong word or phrase to describe something)

Pick your color and I'll get a thread up and running somewhere where you can obtain your little pup.
As you are the first person on the forum to properly receive a Mabari we might have a little fun with it ( akin to in DA:O how you have to help a sick puppy ) but yup! Just tell me what color you want and let's get Rowan a pup pup.

I wouldn't mind applying for one myself, but I've only applied for canons so far so I'll have to wait until I see if I get any of them and which ones sadly.
