Chevalier Nicodème Corentin Favre race | human • gender | male • age | thirty-eight orlesian • warrior • two-handed - affiliation tbd - written by omakligr APPEARANCE Just shy of six feet, Nico may not be imposing in terms of height, but the man carries a look of weathered experience clear in both how he appears and how he moves. His skin, while pale, is hatched in various scars, and blooming bruises are a constant source of discoloration. He has a tendency to tan rather than burn, but the opportunities for such are slim given that he usually is under various layers of armor. His figure is sculpted, built for executing precise care in heavy armor without falter. His flair for meticulous self care has degraded from prior years, seeing a constant layer of scruff adorns his jawline at any given moment. The colors of both hair and eyes are dark, the former a black while the latter a brown dark enough to be considered the same. Gray already peppers his facial hair, and have been turning up along his temples in more recent times. play-by: frank grillo PERSONALITY The bizarre blend of grim and honor that make up Nicodème isn't too horrid to suffer through. The man is not as outwardly brutal, as some Chevaliers boast as, and had kept a level head with a fair amount of hedonistic tendencies and unfaltering loyalty. His mouth may mark him as someone too sardonic and pessimistic, but his actions speak of someone who is devout to his word and believes in a good to fight for. His honor is very much spit-shined, and kept beneath layers of skepticism and dark humor. He doesn't flatter, is no grand player of any game involving sweet words or pampering, and is more at home with ale in his mug and his feet kicked up onto a table. He is a hypocritical blend of being jaded to the world and willing to break bone and rend flesh, his own if needed, to ensure that it survives and flourishes. He will offer himself up to protect those who need it, and while it may be with a quipped word of disgrace or whine, he does it nonetheless. The Chevalier does have a streak of arrogance, of ignorance to lower classes and the struggles they go through, and certainly a good deal of shame about the not-so-honorable things he has done in the past. HISTORY Fourth born to the lesser noble family of Favre, Nicodème was never intended to inherit much of anything. While his family did hold land, it was a meager bit and they never had much standing in Court. In efforts to raise their name they pressured their brood to do better, for the sake of the household. The rather straightforward path led Nico to none other than the Academie des Chevaliers in Val Royeaux. As expected, the training was harsh, his allegiance strong, and he worked through the rigorous programs to become a full fledged Chevalier with little issue. Even in the midst of that iron force of discipline and almost reverent worship of honor, a bit of crassness and gray morality formed thoroughly--as evident enough in the wrought brutality of that informal final test.
Nicodème, after years of serving dutifully, did grow a jaded sort of perspective to the service as a whole. He doesn't act on it--because wrought in his very bones is the dutiful meaning of honor--but his tongue isn't nearly as guarded as it once was. He had grown crass, skeptical, and dark-humored towards the organization, but will readily take up arms and fight like the trained man he very much is. He's let personal matters slide for that of the Chevalier's, putting his duty before any superfluous needs---aside from drink and smoke, of course. In the latter years of his service he's turned more into a hedonistic individual, which very much stands in opposition of his supposed honor, but he makes no motions to solve that hypocritical problem.
He survives, he tolerates what he can, and he curbs his brutality into sarcasm. His loyalty is tethered to Marshall Bastien Proulx, his commander, and of course the Grand Duke Gaspard de Chalons.
